Meek has shared petty messages directed at his previous girlfriend Nicki, but has never really come out and opened up about the demise of their relationship.
The rapper did reference Nicki in his recent song, “$Lay.” He didn’t actually call Minaj out by name in the track, but he rapped about being with a woman that wouldn’t talk to other people. That line appeared to reference Nicki not talking to Drake or Lil Wayne while she was in a relationship with Meek.
Nicki confirmed she had split from Meek in early January, taking to Twitter to share, “To confirm, yes I am single. Focusing on my work & looking forward to sharing it with you guys really soon. Have a blessed New Year. Love u.”
The reason for their split was never revealed, but insiders claimed they were often at odds. A source said, “They were fighting on and off for a little while about a few topics that upset Nicki. They had a bigger fight and then called it quits.”
Minaj addressed their previous relationship in her track, “Regret In Your Tears.” Nicki raps in the track, “Two seats in my two seater-er-er / Used to pull off on me, leave me hur-urt / Tryna front, but I know you do your dir-irt / Not nice, boy you know you do your dirt.”
Nicki also appeared to confirm ex-boyfriend Safaree Samuels’ claims about her cheating with Meek Mill. “Used to creep, creep, with you through the back / I count up the cash and bring you the bag.” The song ended with the lyrics, “Call my line, call my line, I’m like, ‘Please, boy’ / You just need to leave, boy / I ain’t got time for you / Just once, do somethin’ for me, boy.”
Several weeks ago, Meek released a collection of songs on his birthday titled Meekend Music. Days afterwards, he announced he was setting out on a 21-city tour with Yo Gotti called Against All Odds. The tour kicks off on July 5 in Cleveland, Ohio.
